DP Chargers Got Talent

We have some talented high schoolers here in the Good Land. The April 4, 2023, Goleta City Council meeting was proof of that. The Council recognized two Dos Pueblos High School groups for their outstanding achievements. First it was the Mock Trial team for receiving second place in the State Finals!

This was a historic run for the Mock Trial Team who began the season by winning third place at the nationwide Empire Mock Trial invitational tournament and then won the 40th Annual Santa Barbara County Mock Trial competition securing its spot in the finals.

More than 300 schools from 36 counties competed for a spot in the tournament. Their 2nd place victory continues a history of excellence long-established at Dos Pueblos. The team has won three California State Championships in 1984, 1987, and 2016, and now has five second-place finishes in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2012, and 2023) – a record number of appearances in the championship round of the State Finals.

The Council also recognized the DP News Team for being named one of the top programs in the county at the annual Student Television Network national competition.

This past March, DPNews sent 34 students to the annual Student Television Network conference in Long Beach, California, where they competed in 16 contests against over 2700 students from across the country. In the Excellence Awards, the News Program was rated as a Top 20 Best News Show and the Goodland Podcast was named 2nd Best Podcast in the country. They also won:

  • 1st Place for Sports Highlight editing
  • 2nd Place Award for Tell The story News Editing
  • 3rd Place in the Vertical Nat Package
  • 3rd Place in the Crazy 8’s Documentary Competition
  • 4th place in the Public Service Announcement Competition

Dr. Susan Salcido, Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools said: “As a longtime resident of Goleta and a former teacher at Dos Pueblos High School, this is a proud moment for us. The brilliant students, the many parents who are here today, the coaches and staff, we thank you so much for all that you’ve done.”

Congratulations to both of these talented teams for making history and making us proud. Go Chargers!
